They can be used in metalworking fluids, rust preventatives, spindle oils, chain lubricants and hydraulic fluids.<\/p>\n<p>Tack improvers are added to lubricants to reduce splashing from machine elements in motion, thus increasing lubrication efficiency. Their primary effect is an enhanced lubricant viscosity, particularly at low shear stress, and increased adhesion of oil films to metal surfaces. Lubricating oils doped with tack improvers exhibit enhanced structural viscosity and consequently, a non-Newtonian behaviour under shear stress.
